Better career choice Lpn or paramedic in NYC?

  • I live in NYC and I'll be starting college in the fall I am unsure whether I should pick Lpn as a major or paramedic, I'm already emt-b certified, I hear that lpns aren't getting hired as much anymore especially in hospitals and from the research I've done it seems that they're becoming quite equivalent to medical assistants. I want to pick the better career choice but I am unsure which one is the better option. Any help will be greatly appreciated

    As an LPN you would be able to work in Rehab and Long Term care facilities. But, to work in the better jobs - at major hospitals you need to have your RN with a Bachelors in Nursing. Many of the LPN courses are not accepted as transfer credits to RN programs. If you are an adrenalin junkie and may want to work with a Fire department, then go with the Paramedic program. Overall...you are better off with a 4 year degree as an RN or other medical specialty.
