I have a xbox that i chipped about a year ago and i am wondering if i can play the new games for the xbox360?

last year we were in south america where there are stores that will chip your xbox for you so i got it chipped, took it back to the states and then we bring games back every time we visit so i want to know if the newest games for the chipped xbox will work or does the chip need to be updated and if it does can i do it myself.
