How to get your parents to let you watch R rated movies?

• I'm not a little kid, I'm 14 and my parents won't let me watch R rated movies!!! They let me play M games, including God of War which has a sex mini-game! But whenever it comes to a movie my mom is paranoid about letting me watch even some PG-13 movies. I don't even know what they're trying to protect me from anymore, they let me watch movies with lots of cussing and naked chicks, but not if it is rated R. And don't even think about telling me they're doing the right thing, you can't handle this stuff cause I buy R rated movies on itunes and they don't bother me at all! They are being ridiculous about this, how can I make them realize that?

  Parents are always going to worry about their kids, no matter how old and responsible they get. I don't think there's much you can say to change their minds. Yes, they're being hypocritical, but if you've already confronted them about it, they sure as hell aren't going to admit that now. If you want to watch R movies, watch them without them knowing. That's what I and every other kid did and still do. Kids now are exposed to more mature content than when your parents were young. You have access to pretty much everything via the internet, and you parents may not be ready to adjust to that. If you want to convince your parents, I think your best option is to sit them down and ask them exactly why you aren't allowed to watch those movies. Make sure you're not angry and not accusing them of anything, and assure them that you're simply trying to understand. Once they've explained their stance, come up with a counter argument. Know this: chances are they're worried that the violence, profanity and obscenity will affect your mind. Girls' minds don't finish developing before they're 18, and boys aren't considered mature until they're at least 23, 24. (That's what science says, don't get mad at me.) Everything you take in before that is going to become a part of the person you end up being. Sure, you probably won't be a serial killer from having watched a few action movies, but it could ultimately change eg. how tolerant you are of violent behaviour in real life. Also, naked breasts aren't the worst things in life. I'm assuming you live in America, and in America they're pretty strict on their nudity control. I live in Norway, and many things that are rated R in America get an age 11 restriction in Norway (and in Sweden). We're more concerned with violence and blood and gore. Those are the things we believe could potentially have a negative effect on people. Nudity is natural, and isn't going to hurt anyone. So if it's nudity you're interested in seeing in your movies, that could be an argument for ya. Sorry about the essay >.< I'm just trying to help you out
