What is the AMF format?

I need help trying to format a flash drive disk?

  • Alright. Formatting a flash drive disk should be simple right??? We'll first off, I'm going to write a lot, Because, I hate answering questions over and over again, so here I go: I got a couple flash drive USB disk for gifts for school. So their all brand new and whatnot, BUT, I couldn't get any of them to work or to format. I eventually threw most of them away but I still have a few left, and I would like to use them. One is made by Lexar I believe it's an 8gb, small. Than one by Verbatim, like a 32gb. I know size doesn't matter in this case (that's what she said), but I am desperate and would like to use them. So first off, I plugged the flash drive(s) into my computer, went to MY COMPUTER and right clicked.. "FORMAT DISK". I did quick format at first.. than I got "Windows Was Unable To Format This Disk", than I UN-clicked quick format, than it would just load forever..... and ever. Than I opened CMD, Than Used first method : Start>Run>cmd win-key+R. Than.. C:\>format J:/q Press Enter Key, was still unable to format after than, that I tried going through computer management and formatting it through there. I even uninstalled the flash drive and reinstalled than tried formatting it, than even tried updating the software. Still... NOTHING. I was never damaged. It has been doing this since day one, my other flash drive had the same problem. Than I came to the conclusion, maybe it's my computer, even though it's new and every other use device works, that maybe I'll try it on another computer, still got nothing. I am just wondering if maybe their's something I am not doing, or missing. Or maybe I should just come down to the conclusion to just buy a new flash drive. So, Please, help.. Thanks. -Cody.

  • Answer:

We gather that when you plug in the disk it does show, hence you right clicking on it. When you tried to open it nothing happened? The properties do they show? Just a thought, but is your computer virused with a stealth virus, affecting boot sectors? Treat your flash drive like a hard drive, at command prompt instead of typing format j, type format mbr that is the boot record, may not work but just a thought.
