How to get rid of pain from braces?
-
I got my braces today (full top and bottom) and although I'm ecstatic to have perfect teeth, my teeth/gums are super sore! I took an ibuprofen before I left my house and that helped I guess but wore off. I took 2 ibuprofen after that but the pain is still there. I used some orajel and that helped but I don't want to constantly have a frozen mouth. 1) How long does the pain last, and; 2) How can I get rid of it?! Thanks so much!

Hah, I have had braces for almost a year now. I'm suppose to have it for 2 years. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You basically get the wire tightened once every month. The pain only lasts for a couple of days after they're tightened, but the pain goes away & you forget you even have these teeny, metal things in your mouth. Haven't gotten rubber bands yet, so don't ask me about that, I'm not so sure ._. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1. So what I've learned was that the pain only lasts for a couple of days after you get them tightened. 2. I don't usually do anything to get rid of the pain, mainly because I'm too lazy to do anything about it. Hah, I'm a laaaazy person. Just become lazy. Just kidding, just keep up with the ibuprofen & orjel (: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . And you start to "get used to" the pain after a couple of times you get it tightened. After a lot of adjustments, I don't really get bothered by the pain any more. Probably because I forget how much it hurts until the day after I get it tightened XD

Curiosit...
Hi :) so i got braces about...8 months ago! and i was just like you, i was ecstatic to have straight teeth. I never found a way to completely deal with the pain but advil and ibuprofen helped a lot, especially if you take full dosage. Im going to be honest, the pain is pretty bad for the first 2 weeks, and for me it was still hard to eat until about a month and a half later, but after that it feels like nothing!

Well.. You can't get rid of it, you're mouth will get used to it. Theres really no way to get rid of the pain until a few weeks (I'd say about 2-3, depending on the sensitivity in your mouth) but then you'll get used to it(: BE HAPPY! you're gonna get perfect teeth! lol!

if i were you i wouldn't take anything like advil because i think it makes it worse! you should try getting a frozen chip and putting it on to your gums. it worked for me! the pain normaly last 2-3 days. hope this helps.

Just take any pain reliever. The pain will stay for a week or 2. :) 2 weeks is the maximum for me.

When I used to have braces, I always dreaded getting them tightened, but I did find a few ways to make the pain go away faster. First off, if you're going out to eat directly after your appointment, your teeth won't be hurting that badly yet. It usually took about an hour for mine to start hurting. I would always eat one last solid meal after my appointments. Also, if you're that worried about the pain, try taking some advil or some type of pain killers directly after your appointment. I also noticed that chewing things make the pain go away faster. But you should definitely have enough time to eat your burger before your teeth start hurting badly.
