What kind of job I can get as a networking major?

How to get a job? Looking for guidance...?

  • So to get right to it, I have no idea how to get a decent paying job. I have an art degree, (4 year degree, BA from a university in my state). I do mostly digital illustrations and paintings, although I can work with many other mediums and animate as well. I have a decent portfolio. I've tried the public way, looking for stuff on monster and craigslist, doing cold calls, going into galleries and telling them I'm looking for work, posting online. I don't really have any networking connections, or any idea how to get them. Any kind of work — illustrating, designing, storyboarding, teaching, being an art director — would be most ideal. Anything even pertaining to my degree with a decent pay would be nice. I had to swallow my pride and take a cashier job that only pays $8/hr, and I really can't even hope pay my bills or student loans off with that, I'm just racking up debt. The freelance work I pick up only gets me a measly two- three hundred dollars on a good month. I just have no idea how to get myself a better job. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, I would be really grateful to hear them. Thanks, -Starving Cliché

If I were you, id suck up my pride and take the cashier job. Even if it's only for a little while. It'll get you making some money while you either look for a better job or start using your art degree. Have you ever looked into teaching? A high school art teacher is an play paying job and you can put your art degree to good work.
