Good places to camp in the north of wales?

Are there places to camp near Spring Mountain on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia?

  • I am looking for a places in North Georgia that offer a good hike and camp experience. I was thinking about going to the start of the Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain, and hiking a few miles until I found a good place to camp, and the hiking back the next morning. Are the places to camp within a few miles hike from the start of the AT, is it even allowed to camp anywhere like that or am I just completely being misled?

  • Answer:

the AT right now would be a ton of fun because of all the people starting. there's a shelter just off of Springer. though to be honest, a handful of times up there and i've never noticed the blue blaze to it (was never really looking, either). otherwise it's about a 7-mile walk to the next shelter, Hawk Mountain, i believe. and if it's crowded, there's a great camping spot on top of the next hill past that, which nobody really uses because the newbies most always choose shelters for the company. but for Hawk Mountain Shelter, you're talking one day to Springer assuming you're doing the Approach Trail, and one day to Hawk Mountain. roughly.

You are taking a rather narrow approach to remote camping. The Appalachian Trail is over-used, especially if you are simply looking for a few miles of hiking and a dispersed campsite.
