Student exchange program questions I'd love personal experiences also?

Answer:
Costs: For a cheap program, do YFU. I too am doing a foreign Exchange to Japan with YFU, and they are the best in my opinion. The costs is around $8,000-$10,000 (by program) to Japan. They also have scholarships that can pay for everything, except spending money. However, Japan is one of the hardest countries to do foreign exchange due to the population. But, it is one of the notorious program countries in the world. And, if your doing a semester or year program, you'll need a visa and student permit of some sort to go to Japan. School: Schools in Japan are about as hard as they come. You'll need to study a lot, especially the language because not many speak good English. But, the students are the friendliest (so I've heard) as the get. And they LOVE foreigners! Housing: You'll most likely be staying in a traditional Japanese home, and they are a little different from the western world.

Wait until you get into university because then the cost of an exchange program is just what you pay for your normal tuition. If you want to do it in Japan, I think you have to be able to speak Japanese. But then again it depends what country you're from, I'm talking from a Canadian perspective that's in university and I've done some research for it and that's what I gathered.
