How much do people pay for a wedding photographer?

Answer:
From my perspective as a wedding photographer: There is such a huge price range for wedding photographers. There are some that cost as little as $500, and others that cost as much as $100,000. An acquaintance of mine, Joe Buissink, charged someone $1.2 Million for wedding photography. When people have asked this before, I have given the following range: $500-$1,500 for budget photographers $1,000-$3,000 for average photographers $2,500-$10,000 for higher end photographers $8,000-$25,000 for luxury photographers $15,000 and up for celebrity photographers Of course there is a little variation depending on where you live. A photographer in London might charge double what a photographer in Kansas city charges for similar quality. I think $3,500 is pretty average. It is still less than my starting package. Here is something to think about: If you love your photos, then you will feel like you got a great deal no matter how much you paid. If you hate your photos you will feel ripped off no matter how little you paid.

I think a good starting point is to determine what you want out of your wedding photography. How many hours do you expect, what level of quality, how much experience must the photographer have, must they have formal training? Then, find what you're looking for out there and see what it costs. If you can afford it-great! If it's over budget, then you start making compromises. For the traditional $20,000+ wedding, most people probably do spend more than $3000 on photography. But, with a lot of people having frugal weddings under $5000, they're definitely not spending 2/3 of that on photography. There are different levels of photographers for every level of expectations. We personally spent less than $1000 on our photographer but that bought us considerably less than what the $3000+ photographers offer.

Seems here 1500-2000 is the norm. Depends on what you want. Shop hard, and try to use someone local. I do think this is important because you will have it forever. Your dress worn once, your flowers gone and forgotten. Id let guests have a source to upload videos and photos too--free!

In my opinion, the pictures are priceless, so I am more than happy to fork over thousands to get the job done, and get it done WELL. I've already planned that a large chunk of my wedding budget will be towards pictures because that's what I'm going to take away from my wedding day - not a wedding dress that I'll never wear again or a cake that will be eaten that same night. So if you agree. you'll find a way to convince your fiance it's worth it.

Do some research. Expensive doesn't mean they're a good photographer and an inexpensive one doesn't mean they're a bad one. I've seen some outrageously priced "photographers" whose pictures are awful. What all comes in the package for $3500? It sounds like your $3500 comes with only 1 photographer? 1 photographer can't be everywhere. I paid $3000 for my photography package but I had 3 photographers for the whole day, all the copyrights, 4 albums and a few other things. Pictures were great.
