Why does my Blackberry Curve 8530 battery drain rapidly?

I have a brand new blackberry curve 8530 and the battery drains extremely rapidly. I understand that the blackberry uses alot of battery but my friends have them and the charge lasts 2-3 days... my charge lasts up to 10 hrs only. In 3 hours my battery dropped from 100 percent to 80 percent. I already got a new battery from corporate and it still does the same thing. I don't want to exchange my new blackberry for a refurbished one, which is what will happen...corporate already told me, if the next blackberry will just do the same thing. Is this normal battery operation? No apps are open or running that I know of. What to do?

shut off extras like bluetooth or wifi if you dont use them, also screen brightness can drain your battery, try somewhere around 50% and turn the backlight to a shorter setting on both the screen and keypad.
