How to sign an online petition and why do they ask for a home address on petitions?
-
I would like to sign an online petition is there such a thing as signing a petition threough the internet or is it only suppose to be on a documented piece of paper??? I woud like to sign a petition online but I am kinda cautious and worried about someone seeing my home address and full name and coming to my home and maybe doing something to me in anger for signing the petition. Plus I am not sure if the person that the petition is "claiming" to be from is really the people that made the petition. What should I do? Anyone ever had experience with something like an online petition or anyone ever heard of this? Is it safe to sign a petition online or no or maybe? I am not sure. I need a second opinion here.

Answer:
Online petitions are like anything else: If online, know how reputable they are. There are legitimate ones, and there are other sites that just gather personal information for scamming purposes. For the legitimate websites that do gather petitions, the reason they collect addresses is to validate the identity of the person signing, and that the person does exist. It doesn't happen every day that they verify, but it does happen. Do searches on yahoo for petitions where either several names have been thrown off because they couldn't be verified, or tossed out all together because of it.
