What is the best plant fertilizer out there?
-
Iv always used miracle grow fertilizer and its always worked pretty good for me but I had a short conversation with a clerk at a nursery and she told me that Fox Farm fertilizer beats the hell out of miracle grow. I was always taught you get what you pay for and even though Fox Farms fertilizer is way more expensive then Miracle Grows I have doubts about it only for the reason because it is all organic and I know that there's like nitrogen in bat feces and it has all the other ingredients in it that are rich in nutrients but its just that Miracle Grow extracted the nutrients and made it into like pure and concentrated of that nutrient and it just sounds like Miracle Grow would work better than organic stuff but then again I haven't tried using any of it because its usually 60 dollars for some fox farm fertilizer. But if any of you gardeners out there have been growing for way longer than me and have any more experience in fertilizers please share your answers with me. I would really like if you can put facts in your answer and try to leave out as much of opinions as you can and for example miracle grow works better than fox farm but you would rather stick with fox farm because it is organic and more healthier for your plants then please say so so i know and it will keep it from being biased. Please give a little info of how you know this. Lab related results would work the best. Thank You for your help.

Answer:
The best fertilizer is free. Find someone who has horses and get some manure to make manure tea. Get an old pillowcase and put in some manure. Tie the top and put it in a large bucket of water. Let it sit in the sun a day or two. Then use the brewed "tea" as you would miracle gro.

I would stay with Miracle Grow. They are a very large company with a lot of researchers working for them. I prefer the 24-8-16 and apply a sprinkle of the time release type of granuales for the minor elements and ingrediants

There is no one brand that is better than others. The main differences are that organic fertilizers tend to breakdown a little more slowly than inorganics thus releasing the elements over a longer period of time but it does not make a big difference to the plant. I would just buy a general purpose plant food that has more or less equal amounts of Nitrogen Phosphorous and Potassium in it along with lesser amounts of other elements such as Mn,MG,Ca, and iron. I would not spend a lot of extra money on highly advertized products.Read this Wickipedia article for a better understanding of fertilizers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fertilizer
