Where best can one learn c,c++ from?

How hard is it to learn mandolin and how/where can i get one?

  • i can play guitar and ukulele to a near intermediate level but would really like to learn mandolin, the one thing i really don't get is how do you fret both strings at once? is it easy, is there a special technique you have to learn, i just don't get it! another thing is i live in the UK and all mandolins ive seen online seem to be dirt cheap or above my £200 budget (ideally no more than 150). all the ones from america have about £60 shipping costs so are they out of the question. i want one that's not too pricey but i won't have to upgrade if i find i like it, im not looking for a brilliant one, just one that sounds ok and a nghtmare to play and won't brake easily. one final thing, im pretty shy and don't really consider myself a musician so although it might sound stupid i would much rarther order one off the internet with a teach yourself book (what i did with guitar and ukulele) than go try/buy one in a music shop and get face to face lessons. All help appreciated, thanks!

  • Answer:

if i were you i'd buy a used mandolin for $50-100...have it "set-up" to be sure the neck is straight, etc. Then, download chord diagrams from the internet and play along to songs you already know. I should be fairly easy to get off the ground...but takes a while to become proficient. FYI, a mandolin has strings like an upside-down guitar...and only the first four string (but each is doubled). So its 8 strings of four notes. Same tuning as a violin, I believe.
