What to do after submitting application?

What do you do after submitting a job application?

  • Answer:

Give the places you applied to about a week. Usually what takes so long is; they're compiling everyone who applied and weed out the people who don't even qualify for the job. And yes, it's necessary.

I recently went to an employment preparation class, (Jan) The advice from the teacher was call or go in after one week. If you call try something like, "Hi my name is... I recently put in an application and I was wondering if you were currently hiring?" you may get a no yes whatever. If you get a no maybe try asking "do you anticipate hiring anytime soon?" if a yes, "Have you had an opportunity to look over the applications, I would love the opportunity to come in and discuss my qualification." Stuff like that. Also going in if you can, with a current copy of your resume, in a file folder, and make sure it's printed on tan blue or beige 100% cotton resume paper, it will stand out in the pile of white. Dress professionally, be polite, be positive, don't be pushy or pathetic. Don't over share. And keep trying, as long as it takes. I was unemployed from November until the end of Jan but now have two jobs. Call your local department of human resources and see if they can give you any information on local employment preparation help. They may be able to point you in the direction o a class like the one I took that helped me with all that. Keep trying and good luck!
