What can be wrong with my xbox 360?

Whats wrong with my xbox 360?

  • I have the old white xbox and it use to work fine but lately it won't read my disc. When I put in a disc it either says open tray or unrecognized disc. Also if there's not a disc in the xbox and I close it then it doesn't open unless I hit the top of it. I don't know if it just needs to be cleaned or needs a new tray or if I should just get a new one all together. If someone could help that would be great thanks

    Your best off buying a new system as replacing the DVD drive means flashing the old key onto the new drive, making sure it's the exact make/model and considering it's an old white one, it could die on you at any moment. If you want to attempt it yourself, you could try this fix for your open tray error: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9cIkFZSodM As for having to hit the console when there's no disk in it to open it, you won't fix that so make sure a disk is in there before you shut it. If you don;t like leaving your games in it while it's off put a blank CD/DVD in it so if any damage occurs, it doesn't matter.

All you need to do is take a soft cloth and scrub the disc, but if the discs are old and scratched, you may need to get a new disc. To fix the tray problem, eject the disc and look into the Xbox, and i know this is going to sound strange, but if it looks like something unimportant is blocking it, try to jiggle it out of the way. If all else fails, Take a screwdriver and open it up and take a look around. Hope this helps!

I have that same problem try cleaning your discs with alchohol and a soft cloth if thst don't work try cleaning the tray if tjat don't work clean it again if you can't find any solution send 250 dollars and your Xbox 360 back to Microsoft they'll return it good as new in 4 to 6 buissness weeks
