How to get into Go/Shifter Kart Racing?

I used to Jr. Drag Race and i had gotten out of that awhile ago now. But i am interested in go karting now. I was just looking at some karts for sale and stumbled across a shifter kart which really really intrigued me. Can anyonne give me alot of info on how to start and where i should begin looking to buy one and how i can find a track near me. Me and my friend want to start together so we are looking for a 2 kart deal if that makes a difference. any info is helpful! thanks!
