Are there any Europeans who like NASCAR?

Mature discussion about why people like NASCAR?

  • I am American and my entire family likes NASCAR but me. I enjoy watching F1, V8 supercars, DTM, rally, and drifting. I see NASCAR as basically a race where you try to survive the first 4 hours of crashing then race for the lead during the last hour(during which there are even more crashes). The passing in NASCAR just doesn't have any excitement to it. The drivers draft the person then pass them on the straight, only this happens so often the position seems to lose its importance. While in F1 you may only pass a couple times but the positions seem to have more importance because you race behind someone for 5 laps then finally manage to overtake. I see F1 and NASCAR as "Beer and wine". Beer may be easier to understand and be enjoyable by a large number of people, while wine takes time to appreciate and fully understand what's going on. The locations F1 races are also more exciting for me watching a race around Monaco is much more exciting than watching a race at Daytona The DTM and V8 supercars are basically the German and Austraulian versions of NASCAR. A car designed to look like a production car all with standardized engines and bodies. But I can't get into NASCAR. Is it the simpleness of NASCAR that you like?

  • Answer:

Not the simpleness no...NASCAR is anything but simple, it is the ever evolving racing of what more than any other type of auto racing, most resembles an actual road car. True at this point the cars are nothing like your average car but I like the history, the roots, all of it...no pretension and fast, fast, fast....I was watching F1 @ Le Mans and their pit stop looked like octogenarians were servicing the cars. Also a 24 hour race is just tedious, let's get it done in approximately 4 hours OK? My Dad used to watch the F1, Indy car and NASCAR as well...I always had the feeling he liked how pretentious the F1 and Indy car is...NASCAR is good old bumping and scrambling racing...

NASCAR and the NHRA are American motorsports, and people either don't understand American pride, or if they do they hate the fact that America can come together as a group. That's also why our military is so strong. Pride. (this is a condensed version, anything else will confuse people)

Ill say this as mature as i can. Why do you care who likes NASCAR and why they like it? NASCAR is NOT and NEVER will be simple. One of the things i love about NASCAR is people like you don't get it. Maybe its boring to YOU, Maybe its not as good as other Sports to YOU. Has it dawned on YOU that YOU might be the problem here. If you cant get into NASCAR........ DON"T....... Its that simple. Frankly we don't want you hanging out with us anyway.

Actually Formula 1 is the wine and NASCAR the Beer. Formula 1 heralds from the days of the super rich and nobility of Europe while NASCAR is a working class sport, they both have their merits

MtotheR MIGHTY RA!

whats so simple about getting 3500 pounds of Iron to stick in a turn at close to 200 mph. Nascar is one if not the most reverered racing series in the world. If you dont like it dont watch.
