Tips on learning an Aerial jump by myself?

Any Ideas that might help me with ice skating .... and tips?

  • So i have been skating for over about a year now ... so i know most of the basics like side toe hop ... ballet jump and i just learned waltz jump and a scratch spin. So i have heard and seen most of the other jumps that i will be learning soon because i am about to start freestyle so I am a little nervous about doing them because they seem difficult so I would like to know some tips that maybe can help me a little. And I really want to start taking private lesson but then my brother and sister would have to also and group lesson...plus synchro so that's a lot. And i know eventually i will have to but i guess for now i cant

Tips: - Don't be afraid of falling. Yes, it will happen. Sometimes it will hurt. If you are afraid of it, it will hurt more. - If your coach tells you you're doing something wrong, don't get upset or take it personally. Just apply the corrections they're giving you and work on it. - PRACTICE! I can't even begin to emphasise the importance of practice. Why is it that your brother and sister would also have to start private lessons? Are they at a level for privates?

Personally, I watch a lot of videos on youtube of people doing the moves I'm working on. Pay close attention of what they're doing with their arms and feet. Or, ask a fellow figure skater or coach to do that move for you. I prefer the video, because you can rewind, pause, and slow down their jump/spin. Also, practice practice practice! Ask your brother and sister if they really like ice skating. If they don't really, they'll probably be fine with the fact that you take private lessons. They can do their own thing. It also depends on their level. If they are in a higher level than you, I'm with them, they need their own lessons too. If not, just talk to them. Also, consider your level and also your budget. Lessons cost normally $30 dollars for thirty minutes with a coach. Is that really worth it when you are in a lower level? I only take private lessons when I have a competition coming up or I have a new program, even though I compete in Pre Preliminary.
