What is a cruise and how to apply in it?

What Experience/Acredditation is needed to apply for a Cruise Staff position on a Cruise Line?

  • I am 17 years old and am completing my higher school certificate in Sydney, Australia this year. I know you must be 21 to get a job onboard a cruise and therefore wanted to spend the next four years doing courses and training. i.e. First Aid. TAFE courses, or Uni. Could someone please tell me what is expected to be on my resume to become a CRUISE STAFF member? Minimem experience, accreditations and all. I'm currently the year 12 drama captian at my high school and a state champion public speaker, i'm head of the executive team for yr 12, and the yr. 7 leadership co ordinator for 2011-2012. I host all my schools events both fun and formal, and i'm a massive people person with lots of energy. I've also done tv and film work. Happy to work on any Cruise Line. Preferably NCL, P&O, DISNEY. Don't know if any of this helps!

    by cruise staff, im going to assume you mean cruise directors staff? go to NCLs website and check out there careers section, take a look at all the careers and see what each one needs as far as qualifications, you will find you may need an associates or bachelors degree in some, and two years experience. its good to get an idea that way of what they are looking for in their staff. then, since you probably wont see a cruise staff position online, id give NCL career department a call and see what you need to do to be where you want to be when you turn 21

by cruise staff, im going to assume you mean cruise directors staff? go to NCLs website and check out there careers section, take a look at all the careers and see what each one needs as far as qualifications, you will find you may need an associates or bachelors degree in some, and two years experience. its good to get an idea that way of what they are looking for in their staff. then, since you probably wont see a cruise staff position online, id give NCL career department a call and see what you need to do to be where you want to be when you turn 21

im not sure how much this will help but i have had to research this for college and as far as i can see you do not need any formal qualifications to do this. most jobs in the travel industry look more at peoples personalities so they would want to see what you you would be like with customers. I think they would want to see you have had some experience in the industry i dont know if that would be in other similar jobs or with performing. i also know they do like good english language skills and an addidional language is beneficial but it doesnt matter if you do not have that. I think some of the big lines such as Disney would deffinitely want previous experience so you could maybe work your way up and gain experience? and there are courses which are benificial such as ones im doing like travel and tourism which do look into the industry. you must also show you are going to be able to cope with working long hours and being away from home. if you want to perform on the ships i think they do require you to send in footage of you performing. sorry i know thats alot but just trying to tell everything. good luck :)
