Annual growth of vegetarianism?

Does this 18 year old have any chance of hitting a growth spurt?

  • I am 4 months from turning 19, male, and standing at a height between 5'7" and 5'8". At a very young age I had a bone scan, from which the doctor determined that I would be 5"11" ("give or take an inch"). From what I have heard, these tests are typically quite accurate. But here I am, almost 19, and not even 5'8". As a child, I was told that I had constitutional growth delay. I was assured that I would not always be so short, that I would just get my height later than most. I also have size 8 feet (they haven't grown in at least 3 or 4 years) and smaller hands than almost any guy I know. I don't care if I ever reach 5'11". I would just like to be at least 5'9", with at least size 9 feet and average sized hands. Here are a few things I fear may have had an impact on my growth: I was a vegetarian from the ages of 14 to 17. I didn't do a good job of maintaining good nutrition. I ate far less than i should have, and I could have easily been protein deficient, as well as lacking in other necessary nutrients. I have also had poor sleeping habits for the last 6 or 7 years. Also, I may or may not have smoked weed regularly since the age of 15. Any thoughts? or success stories of people with my dilemma? Please only respond if you actually know what you're talking about. And please don't use this post as a vehicle to assert your personal feelings about weed or vegetarianism. I've heard it all already.

  • Answer:

Well its highly unlikely! The give or take one inch comment had the assumption of proper diet, activity and sleeping habits, which was sadly not the case. Still, at 5ft 7 plus, you are normal. If you want to feel tall, maybe go live in indonesia or malaysia, you'd be taller than most guys there :)

It is unlikely that you will get taller. Your current height is not unusually short. It is just slightly below average.
