What are deep drawing defects?

Where in drawing anime should I start?

  • Learning piano started by fingering and locating the middle C. I wonder also in drawing animes, where should I start? Drawing not cartoons but animes like To aru majutsu no index or Sora No Otoshimono Forte, should I copy there styles? Is there also a need to me a branded stuffs? Could I also learn them just in 2 months if I spend atleast 3-4 hours drawing a day? please help me I am really interested in drawing animes but if I draw animes, I draw what I imagine but it is not clear to copy and the output is not expected what I want to be the actual output, the propotions are not equal and also sometimes I just draw and draw without knowing for WHAT is the line I draw, is drawing need focus? I mean is it just copying styles? I find many drawing tutorials specially in youtube and other drawing tutorial websites and it feels like it didn't help me, because if I copy there drawings there, then how about other characters? should I memorize one by one? What important values should I learn before drawing? Please help me Im really interested specially drawing visual novels characters. P.S: I can't even go to art school, I only stay here in house the whole day studying physics, programming, etc and improving skills drawing and piano

I think that you should start with a book or tutorial. How to Draw Manga Volume 5 is recommended by Nekomura Games. And no, I wouldn't start by drawing real life objects. For the most part, the skills are entirely different.

Hi! I draw anime as well (self taught). Just like in writing, acting, etc. you need exposure. You NEED to be familiar with anime. You can't go anywhere if you aren't. After that, don't trace. Look up tutorials (not videos)on how to draw specific characters. Keep practicing with that character until you can draw him or her perfectly without using a reference. Now, experiment. Take some of your favorite drawing styles and mix them together to create your own. This is NOT copying. All anime characters share large heads and other physical features. Finally, practice. The more you draw the better you'll get!

Well, some of the greatest anime and manga creators started by tracing. Pick a picture you like off line, print it, and trace it! Then, try to free hand it while still using the print-off. There are also some really great youtube videos that help you draw anime, just type in 'How to draw Anime' and have a pencil and paper ready! In no time, you should be drawing exceptionally! BTW: I didn't mean tracing like pirating. I meant it like, you can get the basic idea of proportions and styles. Mark Crilley, author of Brody's Ghost, even says in several of his "How to Draw Manga" youtube videos to "Learn by TRACING." It's fine to trace pictures as long as you don't sell it off as your own. It's a great way to kick start a drawing career, like using bases and such. (Bases are pre-made anime/manga bodies from different various places, you add their hair and clothes but the proportions and eyes are already there (just google 'Anime Bases'))
