How do I scan a paper into my computer to use in email?

Use Fax machine as rapid scanner?

  • I would like to know how to use a run of the mill fax machine to scan a large amount of paper documents and transfer them as files directly to a computer. Do NOT want them sent to email via phone line. Is it possible to send them directly to my computer or over my local network. Maby I need a PCI phone modem?? The true story is (and please do not give me flack) that I need to scan a series of personal books. However if I were using my actual flatbed scanner, it would take weeks to do individually. I hope to use a razor to cut out the pages and stack them in the fax tray. The goal is to be essentially "scanning" 50+ pages at a time and then reorganizing them into a .pdf or like file format to digitally store, perhaps legally for personal use on an e-reader. I am mildly tech savvy but was was born mid-90 and never used fax because we always scanned stuff so I have little exposure to fax machines. And I'm not about to shell out $300 for that neatdesk thing. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

You don't need that "neatdesk thing". You can get multi-function machines with auto-feeder for well under $100. I got an Epson for like $80. It'll do like 30 pages at a time. It will even do two-sided scanning (and two-sided copies)
