Why doesn't Medicaid cover Dental?

Need help. I have medicaid and...?

  • I have medicaid for my son and my pregnancy because we didnt have insurance before we found out I was pregnant and after I found out, we called around to get insurance that covered maternity and no one would cover us because I was already pregnant! stupid right? so I had to wait 2 months to even go to the doctor while stupid medicaid processed our application and FINALLY accepted it. now that my son is almost here, and after the 6 weeks that medicaid covers after he is born, I want to get health insurance that covers maternity for our next baby. can anyone please help me find insurance that covers it??? I cant find any good, not too expensive ones. we live in FL. I really just want to get off medicaid and need health insurance for my family that doesnt have a horrific deductible or anything. thanks! wow some really rude people on here huh. no ones getting best answer. well maybe the first answer he wasnt too rude...FYI YES we can afford that much a month BUT we dont want to pay that much a month. you dont know how much we make so get over it. medicaid covers ALL pregnant people FYI so no need to be a ***** about it.

  • Answer:

You can't, until baby is healthy and at least a year old. I don't know that you'll find ANY private maternity coverage, but IF you find it, it averages $300 a month ON TOP OF your health insurance premium - can you AFFORD $500 a month for health insurance with maternity benefits? I doubt it, or else you wouldn't be on Medicaid. Sometimes, when you have something you want to do that costs money, you cannot foist off the expenses on someone else. That's just how it works.

As a direct result of "0bamacare" you cannot get individual insurance with maternity coverage in FL. If the Supreme Court decides to throw out "0bamacare" plans with maternity may return. However, if they do bring back maternity it is nothing more than a pre-payment plan so your premium would be a couple of hundred dollars more each month for the maternity coverage.

There is no insurance that that covers maternity and is not expensive. All insurance is expensive, does not cover maternity, or both. Don't waste time looking for insurance that covers maternity and is not expensive, because it does not exist. You did not have to wait two months, or two days. You could have gone to the doctor at any time, by paying the doctor with money, without using insurance. For much less money than it will cost to get insurance that covers maternity, you can save enough money to be able to pay money to go to the doctor next time, instead of having to wait for medicaid.

Medicaid does not cover all pregnant people - just FYI. Medicaid is welfare insurance. The income limit varies by state, but regardless there is a limit. Florida requires a gross household income limit of 185% of the poverty level for a woman to qualify for Medicaid pregnancy coverage. This isn't being rude, just letting you know that Medicaid is based on financial need. Pregnancy and delivery can be very expensive... especially if there are complications. I was very grateful to have Medicaid while I was pregnant because complications left me in the ICU for several weeks... my bills were astronomical and I would have never been able to pay them if it weren't for the Medicaid coverage. I think Medicaid is a great program for those who qualify. Pregnancy medicaid has a much higher income limit than traditional Medicaid - this may be why you don't think there's an income limit. Your best bet is for you or your husband to find work that offers employees insurance - this will be your cheapest option (although a family plan will still likely be anywhere from $300/month - $900/month - depending on if the employer pays any percentage). You will likely still have a deductable - $500-$2500 is pretty typical, it just depends on the plan. The higher the deductable, the lower the monthly premiums... but you have to make sure you can pay the deductable out of pocket. No one forced you to wait two months to go to the doctor. You could have went and paid out of pocket (especially since you apparently make a lot of money based on your posting). Plus, Medicaid typically covers back to the time the application was submitted if you qualify. Good luck to you.
