Credit Union Banks for travel?
-
I currently have account with a credit union back at home in San Diego. Although I currently am attending a college in Washington state. I'm hoping to deposit checks into my checking/savings account. Am only allowed to do that my credit union at home or are there credit union centers that would allow me to access my account from any state? Also if I were to start an account with a national bank, how long would it take? And also would they be able to give me checks the day of to pay a bill if I deposit money when i make the account?

Answer:
there are ATM'S you can make deposits at if you can't find another credit union. call your credit union, and ask for locations where you are that you can make deposits. look on your card, there are some different symbols on it. you can make with drawls at any ATM that has one of those symbols on it. your credit union can tell you what the symbol is on the ATM'S you can make deposits at and give you the name of any credit unions near you that you can make deposits at.

You can do this at Co-op ATMs if your CU is part of the Co-op network (most of them are). I personally use a CU for almost all my services, but I also have an account at Chase and Bank of America for easier time locating ATMs. It's up to you really, if you want to open up an account with a major bank, but you'll be dealing with more paper work. I signed up for paperless statements and there are almost never any transactions from my BoA or Chase accounts, I only withdraw from them at ATMs every so often when it's inconvenient to try to locate an Co-op ATM, and I immediately replenish the funds when I have a chance.
