How should I set up my babysitting ad?

What should I take to a babysitting interview?(10 points!)?

  • I recently was contacted by a local mom replying to my ad on Craigslist about babysitting. She has a 1(almost 2) year old son and a 6 year old daughter. She seemed to really like me over the phone and wants to set up an interview. Is there anything I should bring? Like a resume or something? Also, what should I wear? Jeans and a cute top or something more formal like khakis and a button down? Is there any additional questions I should ask her? Thanks.

  • Answer:

Just take yourself. Dress nicely and conservatively. Let them ask the questions. Maybe you should take a book, or the like, so that you will not become bored when the child goes to bed.

I think this really depends on the person conducting the "interview" but since you (likely) don't know anything about this person yet, I'd say jeans and a nice blouse would be fine. You may want to take them a resume that outlines your experience with children. Be sure to add anything that proves you to be a credible and reliable babysitter. Also, be prepared to answer tough questions about kids and what to do in a given situation. If I were conducting the interview I may ask someone, "If my children aged 2 and 3 are fighting (physically) over a toy, what would you do to resolve the issue?" OR "How would you deal with a child that refuses to go to bed/will not stop crying/will not eat etc...?" Good luck!

Jeans are OK. I'm not sure what you mean by a "cute top". Nice top, yes, but on the prude side. Take references with you, letters from people for whom you babysit, or have in the past. Make sure to ask them if you can use them for references because they will get a call. You can prepare a resume if you want, highlight any activity that shows you're a responsible person. Do you know the neighborhood where you are going? Take your street smarts with you, you're going into a house you don't know to meet people you don't know. Beware and be careful. Good luck, I hope you get the job.

I used to do babysitting! I would dress more formal but oviously not over the top! I'd wear a black pair of pants and a nice top. Just make sure you know the hours she would need you to babysit, the pay that she is going to give you. Interact with the kids ALOT when your in the interview (if they are around) use proper english. Just basic stuff :D good luck!

You should ask her things like what do the kids like to do, are they allergic to anything etc etc... You should bring a resume, yes and a list of customers and their numbers (with their permission) so they can tell her about you You should wear nice jeans (not ones with writing and stuff on them) and a cute semi formal top. :D
