How do I become an EMT?

You just need a GED or high school diploma. Some states allow 16 year olds to become EMTs while still in high school. It is about 110 hours in length. Some states may require 120 hours. The EMT program can be done in 3 weeks or 3 months depending on how many days per week you go to school. Most just go 3 - 6 hours per week in the evening. EMT is taught everywhere. You can find classes at ambulance companies, fire departments, votechs and a few community colleges. In rural areas usually the ambulance companies and fire departments will teach it to their volunteers. Look up your state's EMS certification office on the internet for the requirements and a listing of where the classes are taught.
