How to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer?

Is sanford brown a good school to become a diagnostic medical sonographer?

  • Hello serious/experienced answers only please! I have my degree in bachelors of health science and Im considering continuing my education to become a DSM. The pay seems good and the rewards of this career seem awesome! When doing my research I came across sanford brown, and this school IS accredited by the CAAHEP. Can anyone tell me if they've gone through this program at this school? thanks!!=)

    Even if they are accredited by CAAHEP, they are not recommended by people in the ultrasound field. That's because many of their graduates are not as qualified and prepared to work after graduating. I work for a large hospital system and they even refuse to hire SB grads at all for ultrasound. Plus, they charge insane rates! (As in $40k+). Your best bet is to find a CAAHEP accredited Sono program through a technical college. You will be getting a good, reputable education for less than $10k. Side note - Ultrasound is much different than people think and much more involved than you may realize. Yes, the pay is good but that's because we are responsible for finding what is wrong with our patients. So make sure money is not your only motivation or you will not enjoy working as a Sonographer.
