What Should I Consider When Buying a Laptop? What latest technology & specifications it should have?

  • -- I want to buy laptop with latest technology and latest specifications. -- I will be first time buyer and I need it for my personal and study (mba) purpose. -- Main usage will be internet, youtube, photo storing, editing & uploading, chatting, hearing songs/music & office applications. -- I would prefer webcam on top or screen, face and fingerprint identifications. -- It should be user friendly. -- I am middle class so it would be big investment for me so definately I look for long battery life and durability with latest technology too. -- My Budget is only Indian Rupees (INR) 28000 to Rs. 30000. The price should not exceed Rs. 30000/- -- I am looking to buy lenovo or dell. I don't want to go for brands like samsung or acer as its brand name don't look good, I want to go for lenovo or dell, can I get it under that range.? -- And finally I don't have knowledge about laptop technology. What latest technology and specification it should have? Like I heard something about processors, ghz etc. but what is that?

The other answers are mostly from clueless people. You start with your price. The India government and provinces charge higher tax rates than in the USA. The competition of selling is less. The people and stores selling know very little about the products and give minimal information. They leave things out like an operating system (Windows) or expect you to get a pirate copy that will not update by Microsoft and does cause internet connection issues. Your 30,000 RS price maximum is low. You are talking US$590 which is closer to US$480-500 in what you can get after taxes. By brand quality, note that all of them at your price are budget systems designed and produced by Chinese companies and the brand represents only the label and customer service and sometimes things like ethernet speed choices and keyboard quality. All the brands are mostly the same parts at your price. Latest technology - Your best value is in some of the AMD A series processors and graphics and maybe an intel B series or P series, but to get a core i3 or higher you will give up other features. They all have wireless and internet connection. DRAM is important. Webcam is nice. Probably the face detection rather than fingerprint reader because of cost. Skip the long battery life since the numbers are fake and slow CPUs and bad graphics get longer battery life because they run slow. Durable? Not at the price you want. Thinkpads are durable from Lenovo but cost too much for you. Apple is great and very overpriced out of range. Samsung and Toshiba may be the most durable you can get. Dell is usually overpriced. They add nothing and charge more. HP has fallen in reliability and quality. See PCWORLD LAPTOP RELIABILITY in an internet search. Dell is low also. Acer is mixed; some ok, and some weak. Asus and MSI and Sony cost too much for you. There are very few online sellers of laptops and often missing information. You should want Windows Home Premium if you can get it. You should want 4GB RAM. Gigabit Ethernet is better for large downloads and online gaming (10/100/1000 instead of 10/100 Fast). Graphics may need to be looked up by web search, but CPU and graphics ratings are here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php If you have online links to stores that list them it would help to evaluate choices. When you pick one out and lookup the CPU, graphics, and features people like me can help you decide. All the stores are terrible about information in India. Unknown brand Wipro (but remember all laptops are pretty much the same parts) http://www.futurebazaar.com/wipro-h-4700-core-i3-laptop/pd/82825/ It says 25,990 RS, but, Operating System : Linux. Windows 7 Basic 64 bit puts you over 30,000 Intel Corei3 2nd Gen 2330 2.4GHz is very good, 4 GB DDR3 is very good, HDD 320 GB 5400 rpm is the new small standard ones, DVD-RW, 14 Inch is good. 14 to 16 is OK where bigger is a heavier system but a bigger screen, Intel Integrated HD Graphics is HD 2000 is OK but not great, Web Cam : 1.3 Megapixel is nice. better than 0.3 and not as good as 2.0, Ethernet : Yes, but may be only 10/100, Bluetooth : Yes , V2.1+EDR - good for wireless phone link, Weight : 2.18 Kg Dimension (WxDxH) : 343.6 X 237 X 28.99 - 35.4 mm is typical for 14 inch . Basic system at the very high end or slightly over budget. HP last one left: http://www.futurebazaar.com/hp-cq57-301tu-dual-core-b940-processor-laptop/pd/74487/ Only 2GB ram, but at 26000 includes windows basic, B940 is slower CPU, but it will have to do. No face recognition on either system. http://www.gadgetsguru.com/lenovo-g570-59-315776-lowest-price-spec-cheap-sale-india-15061.aspx Lenovo G570 with Dos operating system and only 2GB RAM, but should have the face recognition. and the B960 has Intel HD 3000 graphics so it is not bad. Adding Windows puts you at 30,000. Maybe another time, raise to 4GB RAM and Windows 64 bit. You are just a little below price to get even a $400 USA type system. Actually, this is in budget: http://www.gadgetsguru.in/samsung-np300e4a-a08in-price-specification-buy-india-14935.aspx http://www.gadgetsguru.in/samsung-np305e5a-a01in-price-specification-buy-india-14931.aspx You won't do much better If you show two for compare, I can tell you which is better.

Good computers sometimes cost a lot. but these are some specifications for a good computer beside the webcam and fingerprint specifications. 1. the number of processors: average is duo core processor. latest(expensive) quad core processor 2. Hard disk Memory: based on what to be used for. average is 200GB 3. Random Access memory(RAM): average is 2GB. latest is 4GB 4. VGA: video graphics adapter: best ones are Nvidia or ATi . VGA average 1Gb latest 2Gb 5. Computer speed :average 1.50Ghz better 2.0Ghz i think those are the specifications i look for when it comes to hardware

First of all Acers are GREAT they always have high ram and good virus defense. If your looking between dell and lenovo... all i know is that dell's are notoriously slow and low graphics, at least this computer that im using... they are very generic though and looks like they could fit your specifications... but anyways brand names aren't important the things you want to look for is its graphics card(and can this be updated) RAM space (This is pretty much the speed that your computer can download and upload and do anything) the more space that it has the better it will run as computers get slower the more memory that is used. Don't go for something that is apparently "quality" unless it has over 2 gigabytes(G) of Ram and 64 bit video card + hope your search goes well! Remember to look for those not just the brand! Also the more processors the more your machine can do at once. So thats another thing to factor in.
