What is the R body shape?

What is my body shape? What should I wear?

  • I've spent a fair bit of time trying to find information about this online, but I can't seem to find a body shape that fits me. I have broad shoulders: 36" I have small breasts: 29" (25 1/2" rib cage) I have a "defined" waistline: 24" (online sources that I've found say it's "defined" if it's more than 9" less than your shoulders/hips) I have hips that are almost even with shoulders, but much larger than breasts: 34" Every shape or "what to wear guide" that I've found and that talks about broad shoulders seems to think people who have them do not have defined waists. With this small breasts/large shoulders combo that I have, I am very frustrated with trying to find clothes that I look good in. What shape am I? What should I wear?

I have the same problem. Your body is hourglass with some pear "features" in it (small ribcage). I would just look for guides to dress a slim hourglass because you do have boobs but your ribcage isn't wide (there's a good difference between 29 and 25.5 trust me). Your shoulders balance out your hips so that's why you're hourglass. If you want to make your ribcage look wider, there are tops that are fitted at the waist but are loose above it but I don't suggest wearing them. You can pretty much wear anything just don't forget to accentuate your waist, the smallest part. Stay away from baggy clothes :) Also, I don't know if you've ever heard of skinnyvscurvy website but they have a post on candice swanepoel with a similar body shape to you and the administrator "versus" answered a comment about what was her body shape. She said: If we consider the 5 basic shapes (not the very specific ones), I think she is a combination between a skinny hourglass and a pear – believe that her bust/waist/hip ratio indicates that she is hourglassy, but her torso is pear-ish. Generally, you should always accent the smallest part of your body. So in your case, look for dresses that have waistbands, belts. Dresses that have specific top, middle and bottom (skirt) shapes are almost always the most flattering, no matter what your shape. You can also go for pants and a top with fitting around the midriff and fuller around the bust area - that will help fill you out. With a nice larger shoulder - they are like natural shoulder pads - so you will most likely be able to wear the shirtdress styles that you see - they don't usually have a waist, but it is a belted dress/top that accentuates the waist. You are very slim, so most everything is going to look great on you. Don't worry too much. Try on lots of different styles to develop a look that works for you. It's practice, and developing an eye.
