Sony Vaio screen is black?

Issue with Sony Vaio VGN-FJ170. Black screen with blinking cursor?

• One day I just closed my computer, and when i went to start it up again, it took me directly to a black screen with a blinking cursor. I've tried unplugging all USB's, batteries... and it still doesn't work. I've tried all kind of booting F2, F8, F10.... and regardless, neither of these processes work, or it just always takes me back to the black screen with the blinking cursor. Does anyone know another way I could try booting this? I don't have the recovery disks, becuase the computer was given to me. And if I need to download something could someone please direct me how to do that? I'm not really trying to fix the computer to use it, I really just want to sell it. But I don't want to sell it broken, if I won't get as much money for it.

  Since you list no OS, I would guess Windows XP. You could have hard drive failure, bad memory, motherboard problem, and couple other problems. Do a Google search for boot able CD, the OS can be Linux or Repair disk. See if you can boot off the DVD drive. If you can boot then you have problem with hard drive which can be the corrupted or not working. If you can't boot then you have motherboard or memory problem.
