Is there a way to connect to cable tv through my pc?

I can't connect my pc to my tv? HELP?

  • Basically, i cannot connect my PC to my TV because my PC doeskin have a dvi port, an s-video port and its only got one VGA port which is occupied by the monitor, what cable can i use to connect it to my tv asap? Why haven't i got a DVI port on the desktop and why haven't i got an s-video port? Is there a way i can connect my PC to my TV so i can use it? Also i have a parallel and a serial port but i don't know what they're used for. Please help asap!

you use the cable from the PC and plug it in to the TV, are you sure it is DVI though? Most TVs either have a standard VGA port (a 15 pin blue socket) or HDMI, not many were fitted with DVI. If it is definitely DVI then either buy a dedicated cable so it has VGA on one end for the PC and a DVI on the other for the TV or get a converter, use the same cable for your monitor and plug into the DVI/VGA Converter which you then plug into the TV. The best option is the cable, far less messing about in the long run.

Without knowing all the specs of your computer, it's difficult to advise you, but ideally if your video card only has DB-15 (VGA) then it's probably pretty dated, and there is a distinct possibility that the card you're using won't support either 1080p or HDCP. I would honestly recommend upgrading your video card to a more modern one. If you have an AGP or PCI Express slot in your computer, you should have no problem finding a card that works. If you're not a gamer and only looking to play video on the TV, I would recommend something inexpensive, such as an ATI HD 6570. They can be had for less than $75, and being a lower power card you shouldn't have to worry about replacing your power supply, and you'll get all the connections you need, such as DVI, HDMI, and/or display port.

Usually we connect our pc's with a hdmi port now.because you dont even have a s-video I will guess you have no hdmi.I you have a video card in your pc that has rca connections on it you can get a adaptor that will go from rca to svideo but this is old technology and the quality would be ok at best. The other ports you mentioned are for connecting a printer and game controllers so those are not a option..time to upgrade your pc

If you're UK based, you need to contact your nearest Maplin shop. I've found they are very knowledgeable about this sort of thing, and will put you right with regard to procedure, cables required etc. Good luck. http://www.maplin.co.uk/

check your tv settings to make sure you can use it as a monitor and make sure you have a high end VGA cable or HDMI cable (if your computer supports hdmi)
