Why does it hurt when I cough?

I have a cold, why do my back ribs hurt when I cough?

  • I have a cough and cold (sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, sinus headache and congestion). I've been sick for about 3-4 days now but since yesterday my back ribs hurt when I cough and sneeze. Like they're bruised or something. I've never felt this before when I've been sick and it hurts so much to the point where I'm afraid to cough or sneeze. Anyone know why? Or what I should do about it? I'm taking cough and cold medicine and it helps everything but the pain in my ribs. And it's not my chest or front ribs, just in the back.

  • Answer:

By the sounds of your symptoms it sound like you have strained the muscles around the ribs. To help get relief from the pain you can get macro heat pack or you can use a heating pad and put it were the pain is to relax and soothe the muscles. Also, try to take some Tylenol or ibuprofen. the ibuprofen works the best.
