Why is my 1 year old tongue piercing so sore ?
-
So I've never had a problem with my piercing before until last night and I've had it for a year and a half. I was playing around with the plastic barbell I had in and the I did not have a ball on the bottom at the time, and as i was moving it around I felt a sharp pain in my peircing. I think I tasted blood, so It might have bled. Its extremely sore today around the piercing if i move it the wrong way, at my tongue also feels very weak (but that just could be because im getting sick lmao) So my question is, why is this happening ? is it infected ? I have also read that tongue piercings can rip if they're moved the wrong way, could that be why ?

Answer:
I don't know anything about piercings but infected tongue piercings have killed people before. You might want to consider seeking medical attention if it is indeed infected.

The tongue was not meant to be pierced. have you knocked out any teeth yet?
Sorry for your pain but piercing is a bit like sun burn, you know if you stay out in the Sun too long you will get burnt - and - you do. Same with Piercing you know there's a risk of getting an infection, (the mouth is a grubby bit of our anatomy - decomposing foot particles releasing bacteria into the mouth and the mucous membranes lining the mouth and tongue are particularly easy to injury and infect. Thrusting a chunk of grubby plastic or steel through your tongue and then playing with it with your equally grubby fingers is not a real smart thing to do. But hey I'm sure you thought of all those consequences before you chose to ornament your face. Hopefully its a 'rejection reaction' and not an infection - they can be really nasty, depending where or what your mouth has been into. Get rid of the piercing, let your tongue heal and let that be a lesson you could have avoided had you done a little more homework. I don't apologise for my directness, as a retired medic I have seen my fair share of serious health problems from piercings, so I have little tolerance for your plight other than to say, you get off to your Doctor and have it checked out soonest.
You may inadvertently re-opened the wound. It happens all the tip to people piercing their tongues. You may not notice it all the time but your moving it around often and it can rip the scar tissue away. Rinse your mouth with salt water. That should dry the wound out a little bit enough to help speed up the healing process.
