What is an accredited nursing schools?

Can I major in nursing to become a radiology nurse?

  • I really want to work in the radiologic sciences field, currently I am majoring at a school that offers radiology technology as a career associate, but I wanted to switch to a school closer to home, but all the other schools that have this program are not accredited. So I was thinking if I switched my major to nursing, could I become a radiology nurse???????HEEEELLLLLLP

  • Answer:

You should consider what kind of work you really want to be doing. Radiologic technology and nursing are two separate fields. Radiologic technologists, or X-Ray techs, are experts at obtaining diagnostic images. That means they have to know a lot about the equipment they work with, positioning patients for their studies, and exposing them to obtain the images. Also, they learn a lot more about the physics involved and the safety aspects of working with radiation. Nurses have a broader education about the whole body and disease processes but that means they don't have the expertise in radiation that the techs have. There are plenty of nurses in radiology but they usually work in interventional rather than diagnostic radiology. So they spend their time caring for patients undergoing procedures in the radiology department such as line placements or centesis. The nurses monitor the patients before, during, and after procedures, and administer the sedation or other necessary medications. Depending on the hospital sometimes the RN, rather than the radiologist, is responsible for performing certain procedures such as PICC line placements.
