How much work should I be doing for A-level?

How much notice to take time off casual work?

  • I have given one week notice about not being able to make it to a shift at work next week. I have never missed a shift and I work nearly 40 hours per week (as a casual employee) I don't mind that they get me to work so much, as I need the cash, but I have been sacrificing my social life. I wanted to go catch up with some good friends, and needed a day of work. I even explained I could get back early the next day to work a lunch shift. My boss is being unreasonable in my opinion. I have been trying to get time off for weeks.... and they never let me. This job is supposed to be casual... and I think a week's notice is more then enough. I'm a waiter... they can just get someone else to work. There's a girl who has missed shifts, and she managed to get an entire week away from work, no problem. I feel like I am being pressured into working because they know that I will turn up... unlike others who just don't show up to their shifts. I'd find another job, but I live in a small town and there aren't any other places I can work. I don't hate the job either, but I feel like I'm entitled to a social life. Especially when I am virtually working the hours of a full time employee for casual pay.

  • Answer:

Half a week, maybe? Lots of people work all the time and don't have a active social life, but they have no choice but to work.

A week is just right. Firmly stand your ground and point out that you've been working a lot and would like a little time off.
