Nursing Program and Transferring to a University ?
-
Ok, my first question is regarding nursing. I am currently going to a community college and am hoping to get into nursing. What I was wondering was if it would be better to go straight to the nursing program and get my ASN or if it would be better to transfer to a 4 year university and get my BSN. I'm really confused because different counselors say different things. My second question is about transferring to a four year university. I know that for most schools you need at least 60 units, but is there any way that I could apply to a school and just go there with however many units I have. Or do I have to wait til I get my 60 units? Oh and I guess I have a third question. So far I've only taken real general ed classes like Psychology, Poly Sci, etc so my major isn't set in stone. If I were to change majors, which majors provide the most work opportunities. Thanks in advance. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
I too didn't know which degree to get. I did a little research and found that the pay difference (for starting nurses) between ADN and BSN nurses really are not that different. BSN has a better chance of getting higher wages down the road because their classes specialize in management positions. So if you plan on being a floor nurse then ADN is for you. If you eventually want to sit at a desk all day and manage everyone else then a BSN is for you. I personally think ill get an ADN because its only 2 yrs of college with more hands on experience. I don't know about transferring to other colleges but some colleges require you take classes somewhere else before applying to their program. This is usually done at a community college. As for your third question, in my opinion if you don't think nursing is totally for you, it may not be. It is stressful and is hard work. I couldn't tell you what major would be great for you because for the past few years all Ive thought and looked into was nursing. Good luck!
