How do you create a resume?
-
I know, this is probably a stupid question but I dont know how to create a resume. I'm nineteen years old and am currently a student. I need a new job and fast at that. At this moment, I dont care where I apply (well, not fast food lol) but I was thinking of working part time in an office setting (since that's what i've basically been doing since high school) or doing retail. I would work at Victoria's Secret or Abercrombie or any other type of clothing store. My thing is, I dont have much experience. I did work study at my college where i worked in an office for two years. I suppose I can put that on my resume. But my thing is, where do I even begin? How do I write it out and make it sound as eye catching and as perfect as possible? It's pretty competitive out there. Please dont laugh at me for not knowing. Is there anyone that can help me out with this?

It is hard, but there are a lot of examples online that you can look at. They should help you make your own. In your case, you are correct that you won't have much yet to put on it, but you will be competing with people that are of similar age and with similar short resumes, so don't feel bad about that. Just go online and search for e.g. "student resume" or "retail resume" and that should give you pages and pages of results with examples. Some will be very different from your own experience, but just look at lots of them, choose a layout that you like, and copy/paste parts that are applicable to you. Your resume will probably be only one page, but that is perfect. You can stand out by writing a resume without spelling errors, that sounds confident (but not too much), and by listing your office job that you had during high school. You can also list your GPA / extracurricular activities (e.g. if you are in a debate club, or if you are awesome at fencing or playing an instrument), whatever will show that you want to excel, and that you can focus on a particular activity. Good luck!
