How do I share large files?

How to share large files?

  • I want to send pictures to someone, but they are too large even when compressed. I currently have my dropbox, but as far as i know, there isn"t a way for me to let the other person download and view them without also giving them the ability to possibly delete whats there. If i am wrong please tell me because I'd rather stick with one program. I want to share files without fearing that someone will screw me over. I also need a program that is easy enough that who ever I send files too can easily figure it out. I thought about using megaupload but the site has been taken down. I know some places will store the files for a certain amount of time (ex: 7 days, 30 days) but I would much prefer something more permanent. So that the recipient doesn't have to download them immediately or make me have to resend them. I like the idea of a cloud service dropbox, but i want to be able to set permissions for users. Like only I can delete files, but any other user can view, upload, and download their own files. So you have a better idea of what I'm looking for, here are a few examples of what I would use it for: !) This passed weekend I went camping with a Boyscout troop and took a lot of pictures. I want to send out a mass email to the parents with the pictures (preferably a link to the pictures) so they can see them and download the ones of their kids and maybe upload pictures that they took. Every year we have a slideshow play with all the different things our troop has done, so having everyone upload their pictures will make that much easier. 2) I am a college student and I back up all my papers and assignments to dropbox.com. In my ethics class we have assignments that are opinion based and we are permitted to collaborate. I would like to be able to invite members of the class to join dropbox (or other cloud service) so they can see what I though and upload their own files without giving them the ability to alter my files. I know that is a lot to read, but thank you for taking the time. I am looking for a free service to do this, although I will consider a paid service if you can convince me its really worth it

http://www.flickr.com will allow you to share your photos while keeping control. Visitors, controlled by you, can view and download the files but cannot change what is on your account. You don't have to actually send the photos to your intended addresses you just send a link to your photos. That way you won't clog up someone's mail box and you won't run into trouble sending multiple large emails. The account is free.
