Post office refuses to give back my college application?
-
I'm in the year of school when we have to begin to apply to colleges, or where ever you want to go after you leave school. There's this one college that has caught my attention for a while. Actually, its more of an academy. It just opened this year, and I feel its the right place for me to plan for my future! I was one of the few people to send off the application in December. The deadline for the applications was January 31st. You were suppose to get a letter home telling you whether you have been accepted to the workshop. I didn't. I contacted the academy, and my application hadn't even reached the place! I must have had insufficient postage. They said that if I could receive my application from the post office, I will have proof of sending it off in December. So me and my brother went down to the post office, and they refused to give it back! They insisted that "They can't do anything about it. There's too many letters." Or are they too lazy to bother? If they don't believe me, I could simply open up my application and show them the head shot of me inside it? I even wrote on the back: "If not sent, please return to: *My address" In nice, bold, readable handwriting. Its March now, and they still haven't sent it back. I'm losing my patience, as I really want to get into this academy. I've had so much hope for it, and everything has suddenly come crashing down on me. I've missed the workshop/interview. I sent in a second application. I'm on the waiting list. They'll only accept me if there's space. However, I'm not losing hope. I'm not going to let some old hags ruin my future. All I need is proof that I sent it before the deadline. Is there any way to get it back? I hope they still have it... This means so much to me, I just need it back.

Your letter was probably lost as the post office handles billions of pieces of mail a day so there is no way for them to track a letter that wasn't sent with delivery confirmation. the cost of delivery confirmation is only .75 and is well worth it for situations just like this.
First off once you either mail or hand a piece of mail to a postal employee it cannot be returned to you it is federal property. Second what you shoould have done is have it weighted at the post office and paid the correct postage. Third in the future you should put a trace or send it certified mail and you will know that it was recieved or do the application through their website on the computer and print out a copy for yourself Beware oof scams that prey on people
