Acer Aspire D257 Netbook Webcam Problems?
-
Alright, if youve been following my questions for the last couple months or so, you'd know that I got a netbook computer from this tutoring service that gave me the run-around when I completed their program and demanded that they give me access to the netbook as promised. You'd know that they avoided me, and so I fixed up a little Ubuntu operating system usb so I can use their computer while I waited. If you knew all these things already, here's the final update: They came :) Now here's the problem: I've noticed that there's Absolutely no webcam programs on this computer, and the two that I've downloaded (YouCam 5 and ManyCam) won't turn it on. YouCam keeps telling me "YOU DO NOT HAVE COMPATIBLE VGA DRIVER OR HARDWARE TO RUN YOUCAM" and ManyCam opens, but I don't see myself when it does. There's just a picture of the YouCam 5 program, and little a text below asking me to open YouCam. I've checked the webcam's current drivers and it says they're working fine, plus on Ubuntu, with Cheese Webcam Booth, I used my webcam with no problems at all. I just tried to use it on TinyChat (a little web-chatting service online) and there I was, crystal clear. So I guess the problem is that I need to find a compatible webcam program (THAT RECORDS VIDEO AND TAKES PHOTOS) for this netbook. Either that, or there's something I don't know about. Here's some useful facts: 1. My netbook runs on Windows 7 Starter 2. It's an Acer Aspire One D257-1801 3. I'm 17, so this webcam thing is more important than you think :) So there you have it. Think you can help? Your mature, straightforward, clear answers are appreciated.

Answer:
Honestly, I know it's probably of no help but I had the same exact thing happen to me! I remember I had to purchase a Webcam for my netbook that already had a webcam..just so I can have the software that went along with it for it to function. I purchased an ACER Aspire netbook a couple months back. Seriously, the netbooks are terrible. I switched to a Lenovo Thinkpad. I reccomend it if you are someone who prefers netbooks. The Aspires just have problem after problem with them and I don't want you to waste your time like I did.. Especially with the terrible customer service. Just overall not a good device.
