I wouldn't listen to some quack whose business is largely dependent on correcting the damage done by shoes by prescribing even more expensive "orthopedic" shoes. There are virtually no "foot problems" among people who go barefoot, so I'm for going barefoot all the way.

Get a second opinion. Barefoot is healthy, especially on soft/varied natural ground. High heels however should not be worn every day, and not for extended periods of time, as they cause unnatural stress for your legs, feet and back. It's not just what you put on your feet (or not), it's also how you walk. You don't walk barefoot as you walk in shoes (heeled or not), you should walk more softly, to allow your muscles and tendons to work as a natural damper. So barefoot is certainly best if you have healthy feet. If not - ask your doctors, but keep in mind they make money by prescribing orthotics and not all are open to the barefoot ways.

barefoot walks on a sandy, warm beach is very therapeutic, and gives your feet a healthy workout. my wife has neuropathy in her feet ,and loves doing this. we don,t live in florida. finding and using a beach can be a problem for many people. wearing high heels and flip flops are probably the worst thing a woman can do to her feet.i wear flip flops in my house. i can,t imagine actually having to wear them to work, or school. they have no support, especially for side to side motion. a quality pair of cross trainers is my shoe of choice.
