No. If it did the camera description would include either GeoTag or GPS. Generally this is only on smartphones or more expensive cameras, you parents probably heard a story about phone cameras and assumed that it applied to all digital cameras. If you want to be paranoid use google to find a EXIF data viewer or EXIF data remover. That will let you see what information is included in the photo by the camera and remove it if you want to.
