What's the best career for someone who isn't good at managing the ups and downs of relationships?
-
I'm great at managing stuff, things, operations, processes, etc. This is what people say. I'm especially bad at kissing up and managing the human side of things,e.g. letting something go after someone has just let off steam, understanding friendship/political dynamics in a company. I really love mentally gnawing on a problem and coming up with the accurate or most cost effective answer but I always fail when so and so is having a bad day and I need to pick up on queues to adjust my behaviour, then later, adjust my behaviour back. What's the best career for such a person?

Something where you have no, or little, interpersonal interaction would be ideal.

I know a number of similar people. You sound as though you have mild form of Asperger's syndrome. I would say some sort of technical work in an area that interests you. One friend is a forensic anthropologist so a lot of the people she works with are dead:-) You want a job is well-defined with clear goals or endpoints. Sell your work and skills, not your personality. Any employer must recognize your social limitations and make allowances for them. Have a look at the links I have given, they should give you some ideas.
