How much work should I be doing for A-level?

I want to leave sixth form, but i also want to become a midwife, can this work?`?

  • I'm in my first year of sixth form, and despite trying really hard I got a U in my first unit of biology and an E in my psychology. I know it's not the be all and end all and i can resit, but the pressure from school is really getting to me and i'm constantly feeling tired and run down because it's all i'm thinking about. I really want to be a midwife, and i checked what i needed for uni courses, so i've picked 3 Alevel subjects to do, but i cant help feeling i'm just doing them for the sake of getting into Uni, which i doubt i'll get the grades for anyway. I'm trying so hard to think positively (as i always do) but I can't help it any more I just feel like i'm failing (which the grades prove). I'm not the sort of teenager that goes out every weekend or to parties, i genuinely stay in and work most of the time, which is clearly not getting me very far. I was considering leaving and doing an apprenticeship at a hospital then work my way up from there, is this possible? or are there any other routes I can take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Answer:

No you can't do the training in hospitals route any more. You have to do a degree first, so you'll have to do the A Levels before that. You can't be a midwife without getting the nursing qualification first. You can go into hospitals and be trained as a Health care Assistant but you'll never get to be a midwife that way. Unless you start there and then go on to go to Uni to get that degree. Nobody's going to want to have a baby delivered by somebody who has failed biology! You might want to go and see your doctor though, sounds like you are depressed, or anaemic, or both.

you need to finish the course to even stand a chance of getting in . ill warn you though places at uni to do midwifery are very hard to get my girlfriend also wants to do the same as you and has completed college and done a years work at a hospital and is still struggling to get in anywhere.

You can come live with me in Canada and be my girlfriend. I'll take care of you, but don't worry, I'm not a male chauvinist. I would help you get back on your feet and get into a good university and fulfil your dreams. Drop me a PM if interested. Love your pic.

You have three options! you can finish your a-levels and get the grades, go to uni you can take a direct access course which is equivalent to A-Levels BUT in the subject you want to study you can look around university websites and see if the offer scholarships, i'm going to uni on an unconditional offer with A-Level grades DDD, because I sat an exam that proved I had the capability don't give up :)

Yeah, my mum never did A levels and is now a midwife. Get experience in the hospital (sign up for 'bank' work) then at 18, have enough UCAS points to go uni with it

i believe u must finish a-levels to become a midwife
