Should i take out my lip piercing?
-
Please pay attention to my response, and not the title of this question.I know that some people don't like piercings, but im not asking this question to ask about my looks on the piercing because im happy with having it.The problem is, my dad doesn't want me to wear my lip ring at the Jehovah's witness convention this summer.I was raised a Jehovah's Witness but i no longer followed the faith when since i was 13.I think to be religious is a decision i will maybe make once i get older. My dad took a while to accept this, but he eventually did.I changed alot over the years, and i love who i am.I took interest in body piercings last year and my dad let me get my belly pierced for my 8th grade graduation last year.He let me get my lip pierced last month and i love it.My dad doesn't like the fact that i like piercings so much.Whenever i want a new piercing it takes him a long time to let me get it.Im a very good kid and i don't ask for much from him so he said he let me get them cause of that. For every piercing i got i payed for them with my own money.I also keep good grades in school.Even though im not a Jehovah's witness anymore, my dad still makes me go to the assemblies every year with him.He told me that he wants me to take out my lip ring when i go to the assembly.I told him the hole might close up if i leave it out too long, so i just asked him could i wear a retainer. He still said no.My dad says that he doesn't want me to wear it there cause people who used to know me when i was younger might be there and ask me or him questions about the piercing. He doesn't want to ignore the questions. Why should i take out the piercing cause of questions? Should i take it out or wear it?

Answer:
sorry your parent approved of you getting a piercing the law says that you have to be of age to get one but can do it in some jurisdictions with parental consent it does not make it right i think you should remove the piercing for the convention or not go at all peace

Hi, If you were my daughter, I would be just glad to have you there at the assembly with me, irrelevant of whether you have a piercing or not. But, please look at things from your dad's point of view. Think of it like this... for example, how would you feel if your dad came to somewhere that is special to you & embarrassed you by what he was wearing etc (as parents sometimes can do!)? You'd likely want the ground to swallow you up (as the saying goes), wouldn't you? Your situation is a bit like that. He wants you to attend the assembly alongside him & for it to be an enjoyable experience. He imagines that people might ask him questions when in fact they won't likely do that, but if it's on his mind then please leave out the piercing out of respect for your dad's wishes. If you leave it out for a few hours it won't heal up, and your relationship with your dad (who I'm sure you love) will be a good one.

I am no fan of Witness teachings, but in this case I would suggest you take it out. After I told my parents I no longer believed the Witnesses to be the true religion, they cut me off and haven't had much contact in the past 5 years. Your father sounds like he loves you for who you are, which is very rare among witnesses. If he has asked you for this, it seems like a little thing that will make him happy. Why not do that. I don't know much about piercings, but if you take it out in the morning, I'm pretty sure it will be safe to put back in after the assembly is over late afternoon. I do think it takes a couple days for a piercing to grow over. Explain this to your father and I think he'll agree to the compromise.

Sounds like you have a great, patient and understanding dad. Can't you please him for about the 8 hours the assembly will last? Im sure you can. The hole isn't going to close just like that. On the other hand, I also feel your dad is trying to represent you in front of others for someone you are not. Hope it all works out for you both. Have a good day. JW Miami, FL
