How do I convert my GCSE grades?

How much do GCSE grades matter compared to A levels?

  • Hey guys, i was just wondering how much do GCSE grades matter compared to A levels at mid-table universities. I got A B B B B B B C D D D E at GCSE, and I'm currently studying Maths, Economics, Business and RS/Philosophy at A levels. I got an A in RS/Philosophy at GCSE, and B's in the rest. I know I didn't do too well in my GCSE's, but I think that is mainly because of the fact that I'm very single minded and didn't try in a lot of the subjects that I wasn't planning on pursuing at A level. Now I'm concentrating hard on the subjects that I want to do, and I'm hoping to achieve ABB in atleast 3 of my A levels to get into a Business/Economics course, but I'm just wondering if mid-table universities (not top 25) would look at GCSE if you got the entry grades or even higher than what they're asking? As long as I get the entry grades, with a good CV, or even higher entry grades, would GCSE's matter too much? Thanks everyone!

Dear TeamPlayer, my first answer wooho! I've finished with the university system and just started my first job in engineering. It took me nearly 3 years to find a proper job so I've been on one or two interviews in my time and know a bit about cv`s. Since i finished my as levels i have been asked about my GCSEs once by an interviewer and that was really only in passing. I had very limited experience to bulk out my cv but was still advised time and again to get rid of my GCSE results from it because know one was interested. As far as the universities go it will depend greatly on the course you are going for but most over subscribed courses will go to interview anyway, but it might count for something. Best advice i can give is, provided you get the grades to go to university, don't worry to much about grades etc while you are young. Its your degree Classification and work experience that will stand you in good stead for the future. It is my experience that each level of education makes the previous level null and void. Hope this helps a bit, best of luck with your studies!
