Why I feel depressed just because I am a stay at home mother?

Women. Do you feel like you're not progressing the cause if you want to be a stay at home mother?

  • Answer:

I'm a guy, but I agree with you. It's understandable that many households need dual incomes, but there's nothing wrong with a parent staying at home. My mom did, and I absolutely HATE when people act like stay at home moms don't contribute. I was able to see how much time and effort she put in, just like I was able to appreciate my dad's hard work at his career. Though I'm not much for the traditional gender roles as were present in my family (my dad has said before that he thinks a wife should always make less money--which I disagreed with), I can appreciate that they work with some people and have nothing against them, it's just not my preference. Too many kids raise themselves nowadays anyway.

The pay is lousy, the pensions are even worse. It's a sacrifice you make for your family. For many, being a housewife seems to be the easy option, with men as well as women looking down on stay at home mothers. (I was told by a man I should work full time.) Of course stay at home mothers can benefit society and of course, they can work hard. Not all of them do, it is true.

I'm not interested in progressing the cause, so I couldn't care less. I think someone has got to look after the kids, and if a woman wants to look after her own kids instead of leaving it to someone else, then she should.
