(Just as a note--the presence and energy level of the CMB radiation was predicted before it was actually observed...pretty hard to explain for someone who says there is "no evidence" for the big bang--afterall, confirming previous predictions is the heart of scientific evidence) -Lastly, studies of the big bang don't just include the studying space, time and gravity, but the very small particles and fundamental interactions (forces) of nature. On this front, particle accelerators like the Large Hadron Collider provide invaluable experimental information on these dynamics. Highly energetic collisions of particles, like those in the LHC, recreate the conditions that were present literally a billionth of a second after the big bang! (since all of matter and energy took up such a tiny space, it was incredibly, incredibly energetic). Some astronomers thought they were clouds of gas and dust inside the Milky Way, others dared to suggest they were vast clouds of stars a very long way away. A few years before that one astronomer had managed to get a spectrum of the light from one of these smudges and the red shift showed it was moving away from us. In the 1960s the old idea of communications satellites was becoming a reality, but they needed good antennas on the ground since the satellites had to be so far away and the signal from them would be weak. At Bell Laboratories, two physicists were tuning up an antenna for such satellites and found there was a constant noise in the radio receivers. After many attempts to locate it, they finally realised it was coming from deep space and was the cosmic microwave background which had been predicted by the big bang theorists several years before. So the improvement in radio antennas and receivers in the years up to 1964 was the technological improvement which led to the confirmation of the bb theory. There are larger optical telescopes than the Hooker now in several countries and the number of galaxies that have been detected and red shifts measured is in the hundreds of thousands. Technology actually adds fuel to DISPROVE this theory. Planets spin sideways, or backwards, the moon moves away from the earth, but in billions of years has still not moved far enough away from the earth.
