I think many ppl lie when they say they've a great marriage. Look at yahoo answers here to see how many questions are on cheating alone! I think the majority of people do NOT have great relationships. Why else do we have a 50% divorce rate, excluding those in unhappy marriages but staying together for the sake of kids, monye, etc. Do u think most ppl have appearance marriages?

Answer:
The answer is people keep up appearances. They create the illusion of happiness. Part of it is denial. As long as the whole world perceives it as a happy marriage, then it is one. However, reality is only as good as the illusions will allow you to see it. The divorce rate and infidelity rates are high simply because people do not know their partners when they marry, or the couple changes over the years and they're not on the same page in so many respects. Marriage is far too easy to get into, and far too difficult to get out of. So the best thing to do is maintain appearances. And that they do. Edited to Add: Dave has no clue. Dave is one of the 25 percenters who married someone that was right for him, and his marriage progressed evenly. Or so we are told. I'm an in-court mediator and I will tell you there are people who have children, buy expensive cars and homes, all in order to keep up the appearance of happiness. 50% of all marriages end in divorce simply because the people didn't understand the commitment they were making, or know their spouses, and then it ends up in a nightmare for one or both of them. Statistically about 50 percent of all marriages fail. Of the divorces filed 75% are filed by women. Half the marriages out there, happy or not, will suffer from some form of infidelity by either the husband, the wife or both. Wives are less likely to forgive marital infidelity than husbands. Couples that reconcile more often than not, find themselves back in divorce court again. So its not unusual to run into the same couple a 2nd time.

Softtouc...
Softtouch has no idea. She's guessing. I would not use Yahoo Answers as a good representation of how many people have good or bad relations. You can get a warped point of view here if you are not careful. I have been married to my sweetheart for almost 40 years. Still very much in love and best friends. That doesn't mean there haven't been challenges but we have always handled them together. We both married our best friends. That helps. We have been together since I was a Jr in HS and she was a Sophomore. I can't imagine happiness without her.
