How can I get these hives?

How can I get hives to go away?

  • I've had hives since monday afternoon and it's been 5 days. I've been itching like crazy, I thought my hives were gone yesterday because I didn't seem to itch as much and there wasn't any bumps on my skin anymore but today when I woke up, I started getting itchy but I resisted the urge to scratch it. I was just lying on the couch and there was a bunch of raised bumps all over my arms and body. Right now there's still a lot too. I took medication that was prescribed to me for the passed few days. I was at the ER on the first day and they prescribed me benedryl and allergy medicines. Then I went to my family doctor and he also prescribed me more benedryl after I finished eating the ones from the hospital. I'm sick of being so itchy and I missed school for almost the whole week. I really want to be healed by tonight. I've researched so much about hives to how to cure them, but none of them worked. I've been to the doctors countless times and nothing worked.

  • Answer:

The only things I've had work for hives is leaving them alone, and applying cool things to them to help soothe them (as well as anti-itch creams, or fresh aloe vera if you have any...I keep a plant just for these bad occasions!). If benedryl isn't helping, see if you can get on a different allergy medication, preferably something prescribed that is a bit stronger. And whatever you do, DON'T SCRATCH! Put gloves on your hands, or wrap up your arms, if needed. If they absolutely won't go away, your doctor may be able to prescribe you steroids (either give you a shot then and there, or give you a short treatment of pills or I think they can even give you a cream?), however this should be a last-ditch effort if ABSOLUTELY nothing else works. Right now I have a hive thing going on on my arm as well and I don't know why, and if I leave it alone it goes away. It's been coming and going for the past three weeks now, and while it's annoying it can be ignored and clears up on its own. If it gets bad again I plan on asking a doctor about it, but until then applying moisturizer and not scratching works just as well.
